Updating
WHAT IS UPDATING?
Updating is a re-education process and a method in which Coaches/Judges can keep up to date on the latest information in their chosen gymsport(s) and sport in general. Updating is a requirement for Technical Membership renewal. Updating assists Coaches/Judges in the management of risks associated with the sport.
UPDATING AND TECHNICAL MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL:
Renewal of Technical Membership occurs annually. Each year Technical Members are required to submit updating evidence (in-line with the National Updating Policy) that accompanies the signed Technical Membership Renewal Form with payment. Once received, Gymnastics Australia (GA) verifies and cross-checks all updating evidence. If the updating evidence provided is insufficient or inappropriate as per the policy, the Renewal Form is returned to the applicant along with the payment. The Coach/Judge then remains unregistered and uninsured until valid updating is supplied and returned to GA.
If a Technical Membership Renewal Form (accompanied by the correct payment) is received and the updating evidence is in-line with the Policy, GA will process the Technical Membership immediately. The member is registered and insured from the date the Renewal Form was received in the GA office.
Updating Evidence:
Updating sanctioned by your State Association Member is recorded on the National Database. You can view your own updating activities by logging on to the National Database (for more information click here). You may also provide additional evidence of updating via a Log Book (provided by Gymnastics Australia upon request). However, if you have misplaced your Log Book (or never received one) you may still provide updating evidence by simply attaching legible documentation to your Renewal Form.
The annual Technical Membership Renewal Form now lists all updating activities recorded on the National Database (by your State Association Member). Only the updating activities completed after the date of your last renewal are listed on the form. Any updating completed prior to the date of your last renewal will not be counted for the following year's membership.
UPDATING ACTIVITIES:
In order to maintain or regain your Technical Membership you are required to show evidence that you have been involved in a constant process of education. This can be achieved by attending either an approved accreditation course or by attending a number of approved (State Association Member sanctioned) Updating activities that are relevant to your type(s) and level(s) of accreditation.
Further information on Updating is located within Gymnastics Australia's Technical Members Handbook.
NATIONAL UPDATING POLICY
UPDATING WITHIN YOUR OWN CLUB:
It is not always easy to accumulate sufficient updating by attending workshops and courses provided by your State Association Member. Therefore, the policy allows for updating to be conducted within your own club. However, you must ensure there are certain standards and conditions met prior to conducting your in-club workshops:
- Ensure your workshop date(s) do not clash with other endorsed updating activities in your area
- Ensure your workshop content is appropriate to the GymSport(s) and Level(s) of the attendees
- Ensure your workshop presenter is appropriately skilled in the topic(s) chosen
- Ensure your workshop is sanctioned at least 2 months prior
- Ensure all fees are paid prior to the workshop commencing
Important information for in-club updating:
The State Association Member must sanction all updating activities facilitated by Clubs. Clubs are advised that some State Association Members may charge an administration fee per course participant to record the updating activity on the National Database.
OPEN Updating Workshops: The Club hosts Updating activities that are 'open' to all members of the gymnastics community. These Updating activities are advertised in the State Bulletins
CLOSED Updating Workshops: The Club hosts Updating activities that are for host Club members only.
Clubs who source RTP* to conduct Club Workshops, may apply prior to the activity for additional UPD points to be allocated.
Note: No half points are allocated
